Timing is Everything: Unlocking Your Spring Lawn with Key2Green
Hello Key2Green Family! The season is officially under way, and I’m happy to report that our local lawns are off to a great start! To keep that momentum going, I’m sharing a few quick updates on what I’m doing right now and what you can expect in the coming weeks.
The Science of "Step 1"
Timing is the biggest difference between a professional application and a "big box" DIY approach. Many companies throw down fertilizer too early or too late, making it ineffective. At Key2Green, I wait for the perfect window: when the forsythias start blooming and the soil temperature hits 55°. This ensures your lawn actually absorbs the nutrients it needs to thrive, and effectively blocks weeds from germinating, getting your lawn off to a strong start.
Winter Weeds & Patience
You might notice some lingering winter weeds like bittercress, wild onion, and clover. Don’t worry—I’m on top of them!
Standard sprays are naturally less effective in these colder temperatures, so bear with me while I fight that battle. However, if that concerns you before your next scheduled service (Step 2), please call me for a free re-treatment. Otherwise, know that the next phase of our process will take care of them completely.
Winning the War on Weeds
The Step 1 fertilizer will feed your grass for the next 4–6 weeks. This sets the stage perfectly for Step 2, where we’ll provide a second feeding and launch a targeted attack on post-emergent weeds.
This is the turning point where you’ll see the grass start to "win the war"—thickening up enough to naturally crowd out the weeds. Trust the process, and watch your lawn thrive!
Coming Soon: New Equipment and License
I recently invested in a new commercial-grade mist-blower specifically for treating ticks and lawn disease. It delivers a very fine mist, which allows for maximum coverage of liquid product, making for very effective, accurate, targeted treatments.
So keep an eye out for a special announcement coming soon regarding an added license I am finalizing, to keep your property safe from pests this season. Details coming soon!
Growing Together: Stories from the Neighborhood
It’s been an incredible start to the season, and I’m so grateful for how many of you are reaching out to Key2Green!
Whether it’s a neighbor "cornering" me while I’m servicing a property to ask for an estimate, or someone waving me down to scan the QR code right off my trailer, the local support has been amazing. I even had a neighbor I met last year reach out to say they love following this newsletter and are finally ready to get started. Welcome to the family!
Spotlight: Beth’s Backyard Transformation
I wanted to share a quick success story about a customer named Beth. Last fall, her backyard was struggling—it was thin, patchy, and the grass just wasn't thriving.
We started with a soil test, which revealed her lawn was very acidic (5.0 ph, which is considerably low) and lacked the organic matter and nutrients needed for growth. We put a specific plan together, and Beth followed it perfectly. I just conducted a second soil test, and the results are outstanding: we raised her soil pH by a full point to 6.0! (a 20% increase). Reducing soil acidity helps grass absorb nutrients better, leading to stronger growth and a healthier lawn. Even this early in the season, Beth’s lawn is already showing signs of thick, healthy new grass. Simply put, we "Unlocked" her lawn with the Key2Green!

There is so much I love about owning and operating this company. Beyond the science of turf management, I truly enjoy the daily conversations I get to have with each of you. This journey has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m looking forward to a great spring ahead.
