Welcome September! Transitioning to a Beautiful Autumn with Key2Green
Hello Key2Green family!
As we transition into the crisp days of September, I want to extend a warm welcome to all my new Key2Green (family) customers joining us this month. As Key2Green slowly grows, I want to make sure my customers know that I'm not, nor ever will be, a big box company. I pride myself on accessibility and being a local company, which includes keeping home the fact that when you call, you get me, licensed, local, experienced, and passionate about lawn turfcare.
Customer satisfaction is always on my mind, and while there have been times where I’ve made a mistake or two, in those few times, I’ve acknowledged, and went back and made it right every time without additional charge. I say it all the time: I will always treat your lawn, like my lawn — and you can see right on my Key2Green website the video footage of my own lawn (and the neighbors)!
Additionally, as we look ahead at the changing season, and given that some of you have been curious about what the upcoming winter holds for the Northeast, I’ll be keeping a close eye on those conditions and sharing advice to keep your lawns healthy and prepared.
Updates From Around the Yard…
I’ve been very busy with some interesting observations and seasonal shifts, so here's a quick rundown of what's been happening around the yard:
Key2Green contest winner — A big congratulations goes to Jim Vincent of Guilford, our Key2Green contest winner who received a free fertilization and weed control round, and is already seeing great results with their lawn greening up!
Crabgrass Invasion — while the significant amounts of rainfall this summer made it a tough challenge by breaking down the pre-emergent active ingredient prematurely, I fought back against it with free retreat post-emergent crabgrass spray applications. As we look ahead, I’m already going over new strategies to prevent this next year, including a stronger pre-emergent ingredient that lasts longer, OR including pre-emergent in the second service as well for next year — either option I decide on will result in no additional cost to you. I will share the plan soon!
Mosquito update — it’s no secret that mosquitoes have been absolutely atrocious due to the exceptionally wet July and August, and honestly, you can't put enough pesticide down to stop them. But thankfully the cooler nights are coming and that should start slowing them down and breaking the cycle of the mosquito infestations everyone is experiencing
Tick update — I'm happy to report that the Key2Green tick control program has been working very well this season. I haven't received any callbacks for follow-up retreat applications, and clients haven't been reporting ticks in their yards — or on them! — which shows the barrier I put in place is doing its job. Plus, as we move into cooler weather, tick activity will naturally start to slow down
Grub update — I'm pleased to share that the Key2Green grub control program is also working well. I haven't had any follow-up retreats, grub infestations, or damage observed, so you can rest easy knowing that part of the yard is fully protected
Spotted Lanterfly update — Spotted lanternflies have reached their peak and are starting to go away now, and I'm hopeful that nature will fight back in the coming years, and that the population will balance out in time. Where possible, eliminating the Tree of Heaven, which is what they seek out, can also help
Aeration + overseeding update — has been going well this season, with many yards already starting to show results from restoration with new grass starting to pop up. There's only a small window of time left for this, as the seed needs time to germinate and grow enough to survive the winter, so customers should call soon if they need that done for their yard.

Autumn Fertilization: Essential Nutrients to Store for Winter
Regarding autumn fertilization, I like to apply this final application a bit earlier. The goal is to avoid leaving excess nitrogen in the soil over the winter, which could promote fungus and snow mold. This will ensure your lawn stays healthy and protected, as well as help get your lawn off to a good start when it wakes up next year.
I am now starting to schedule this final feeding, which includes the essential nutrients your lawn needs to store for the winter.
Don't worry, when your lawn wakes up in the spring—I'll be there to feed it and get it going again, because you'll have the Key2Green!
